This author’s humor really works for me. She creates interesting personalities. Some are odd. The chemistry and the way they interact makes me laugh.

The ending was more normal - less humor there. It had a crisis and wrapped things up. It was fine. It was a happy ending for the couple. But the best part was the first 3/4 of the book.

STORY BRIEF:
Six months earlier Lake loaned money to his sister Rainne who bought a lingerie shop. She is flaky and a terrible business manager and the place lost money. Lake just now got out of the military. He comes to town to turn around Rainne’s shop and sell it to get his money back. He wants to join his buddy in the security business. Kirsty is a former model who owns a competing lingerie shop across the street.

THE SERIES:
Book 6 will be published in 2016. Each book is a stand alone romance about people living in the small town of Invertary in the northern Scotland Highlands. Main characters in one book have small roles in other books. My ratings are:

After leaving the Army, Lake Benson needs to free up his savings in order to invest in starting a security firm with his buddy. The problem is he loaned the money to his sister so she could buy a lingerie shop in Scotland, and now the shop is in the red. Lake has three months to turn it around so he can sell the shop and make a profit and then get back to England. After all, what does he know about lingerie besides unsnapping a bra?

Kirsty Campbell is just barely making ends meet with her lingerie shop across the street from Lake’s shop. Her modeling days are over since the car accident that left her scarred and penniless, thanks to her no-good ex-fiancé. Sparks fly when she meets Lake Benson, but they’re not all the good kind. It’s a war, and the last shop standing will be declared the winner.

Lingerie Wars is a humorous contemporary romance with a touch of drama that kept me reading from start to finish. Just the idea of a trained military guy taking over a lingerie shop was enough to reel me in, but the addition of declaring war on the sexy model across the street hooked me in for the long-haul. And Betty, the hobbit and mascot—Lake’s words, not mine—kept me laughing throughout.

Kirsty, who should have had all the confidence in the world having been a model, showed great growth during the story. When we first met Kirsty, she didn’t know how she was going to make ends meet or even fight back against Lake, and she was attracted to him but couldn’t bring herself to bare her scars to anyone. But Lake brought out the best in Kirsty, pushing her to be confident and feisty while also making sure she understood how much more there was to her than the marks on her skin.

There were quite a few secondary characters involved in the shenanigans, my favorite being Betty, who Lake couldn’t get rid of if he tried. But like all annoying sidekicks, at the end of the day she’d grown on him like a favorite mole. We also had involvement from friends and family of both Kirsty and Lake, rounding out the plot and tying everything together. Although the romance between Lake and Kirsty was definitely at the forefront, there was much more to this story with Kirsty’s ex providing a little drama and Lake’s sister finding her way in the world.

There were a few places in the e-version of the book where the font changed for no reason, but overall the entire story was extremely enjoyable. I would definitely read more by this author and more in this series. Although part of a series, Lingerie Wars is a standalone book.

Mediocre contemporary romance. Fun concept, but "meh" on the execution.

This is your average grown girl dream. Former lingerie model "battling" it out with the attractive, ripped hunk who bought the store across the street. Romance and hilarity ensue. With a little bit of naughtiness that you expect with a title with "Lingerie" in it. It wasn't too explicit though, which was nice. But also, in my opinion, it doesn't really satisfy the reader either...at least not the naughty time at the end. (SPOILER That was the most disappointing striptease I have every read...and I don't think I've read a striptease...but I wouldn't qualify that as one. Poor reader...poor hero... And, where is the mention of the scars she was SOOO self-conscious about? Disappointing end.)

The writing was okay. A little cheesy, but that's kind of expected in a short, sappy romance book. But the weird thing to me, was the addition of a secondary story that had almost nothing to do with the main characters. It made no sense to me to have the story of the hero's sister and her love interest in this book, especially when her book is 6th in this series. I think the author should've just eluded to her story, but not had her perspective and story randomly woven into this book.

Okay read, but a little disappointing. I don't feel the urge to read anymore of this series.
